October Drift drop the ferocious “Losing My Touch”
Following the releases “All Broken Down” and “Come and Find Me”, October Drift have shared their new single, “Losing My Touch”. The track is the first from their upcoming debut album and it’ a big one.
As an exploration of the pressures that face new bands trying to make it, “Losing My Touch” is as insightful as it is spirited. As frontman Kiran Roy explains, “this song is about questioning whether it’s all worth it, or whether we’re just chasing a deluded dream whilst we watch other opportunities pass us by.” However, with this, the track also possesses a degree of hope and positivity. Here, we are told to still try to carry on moving towards our goals with optimism, and it is this which gives the track that added depth of realisation.
With influences including The National, Radiohead and Interpol, October Drift’s heavy and well-rounded rock is rejuvenating. Firstly, Kiran’s vocals are appropriately fragile for the themes of introspection and despair. Then, the distorted guitar riffs, in their ferocity in the chorus, also help to give you that sense of drowning in your own despair.
Editors guitarist Justin Lockey recently signed the band onto his label, Physical Education Records. On October Drift, Lockey has said they are “an unashamed British guitar band who just do their own thing outside of whatever scene is cool at the moment.” It is this individuality and spirit which attract both Lockey and many fans to their rebellious and informed sound. With news of their debut LP on its way, many are excited to see where October Drift will head.
