gabriel black with phem - dead yet music video

gabriel black drops video for ‘dead yet’ ft. phem

After releasing his “dead yet” collaboration with phem, along with its feature on HBO series Euphoria, gabriel black has dropped the track’s captivating music video. Directed by Hunter Lyon (blackbear), it also reveals the true identity of the Pennsylvania artist, who had previously only featured himself in cartoon form within his music videos.

With gabriel black drawing influences from emo, rock and hip-hop, the unsettling yet inspiring demeanor of “dead yet” is really something. Also, both black and phem’s knack for creating that sinking sensation of looming darkness is ever-so-apparent. Here, while both explore the same pained existence, the defiance of the LA-born artist works wonderfully with black’s urgent spirit. In this sense, phem’s disenchanted vocals and yearning for life help to provide a doomed atmosphere to the track. This this blends beautifully with the synths and brewing guitars.

However, the song has one powerful message that shines over the rest: to leave a life of pain behind, by not only choosing life, but to also choose commitment. Therefore, by the time you reach the second chorus, that sense of looming dread is slowly replaced by a wish to get out of the slump and live a better life. So, it is this battling of darkness and light, followed by light’s eventual victory, which make “dead yet” a stirring and inspiring track that shows light at the end of the tunnel.

Check out the cool music video below, which shows both artists looking for a way out in rather dire circumstances.
