Lauran Hibberd observes her friends in ‘Sweat Patch’
Following the release of her debut EP Everything is Dogs, Lauran Hibberd is back with another cheeky single, ‘Sweat Patch’. The Isle of Wight’s shining star has released the single during her fun tour with The Regrettes.
‘Sweat Patch’ is set up as a fly-on-the-wall analysis of Lauran’s friends sitting in a room taking drugs, while Lauran herself, utterly sober, sits in the room observing them. “There’s loads of songs about getting high, not as many songs about watching and I guess analyzing other people do it” explains Hibberd. “I guess this is me, soberly sat in a room watching all of my friends take drugs.”
Also, the song then explores how this could create problems in romantic relationships. “I guess there’s also a nod to the elephant in the room, A DUDE. There’s always a dude! And I guess this song stemmed from me being into this guy, but he was pretty much into other things more.”
As always, Lauran Hibberd shines with her heavy guitar riffs and infectious sarcasm in ‘Sweat Patch’. Her analysis of various relationships, and especially of the very things that can make them go wrong, remains as cheeky, detailed and creative as can be.
