Ralph Taylor releases funk bop ‘Sweet Innocence’

This week, London-based artist Ralph Taylor has released his second single of the year. ‘Sweet Innocence’ is a groovy and warm bop that will certainly lift your spirits.

Produced by Luke Buttery, ‘Sweet Innocence’ sees the 21-year-old trying to accept the end of a relationship. “I went through a rollercoaster of emotions and this track came about when I dropped that innocent view where you think everything will always work out as you planned – cos, let’s face it, not everything in life always does”, he revealed. “Writing this song felt like a form of closure.” This is especially quite strong when he hear Taylor trying to battle with his naivety in the track, eventually reaching the point where he begins to move on.

‘Sweet Innocence’, released on London label Laid Bare Records, follows on from his 2020 release ‘Underneath’, which also delightfully showcased the groovy mixing of classic funk, soul with modern pop. For the new release, Taylor has also taken inspiration from the likes of Prince and the 80s funk scene to create his infectious and timeless rhythms. The bouncy drums and no-nonsense bassline act as a wonderful partner to Taylor’s swagger, pace and effortlessly sleek vocals.
