About Me

Hello everyone, Sophia here!

From Hackney in London, I graduated from the University of Warwick in 2019 and decided to take my creative side hustle up a notch. Welcome to my blog!

Per the wise words of John Keating in Dead Poets Society: “Poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for” and these can be found in abundance in Music.

My love for music has gone on for as long as I can remember. Receiving the firm stamp of a music taste from my parents, I remember making tapes and CDs with selections of 70’s, 80s and 90s music (The Smiths, The Ramones, Buzzcocks and The Jam comes to mind from my first CD) between the ages of 8 and 13 (okay, I admit there was also some R&B and cheesy pop in there too!).

Then, I found a way to annoy my close friends and family with my musical endeavours during my second year at Warwick – I joined the student radio station, RAW, and presented a weekly throwback music show called Turn Back Time (cue the diva that is Cher!), which covered anything from popular 90’s music, Disco, to slightly more obscure Punk and Electronic collections from the late 70’s and early 80’s. Podcasts of these shows can also be found on this site. I was at the station for over 2 years, adding film soundtrack shows, numerous student chart shows and even an executive committee position to my name.

In my third year of university, I started From Sophia with Love.

Then, returning back to RAW for my final year, I spent a lot of my time discovering breaking new music for radio playlists, interviewing bands at local venues and reviewing gigs for publicity.

As the immortal words of Wet Wet Wet proclaim, “Love is all Around”, so come on and let it show! I sincerely hope you enjoy reading. 🙂

From Sophia, with Love x
