About Me

Hello everyone, Sophia here!

During my time at university, I decided I was going to annoy a wider audience with my music ramblings. So welcome to my blog!

If you’ve ever seen the film Dead Poets Society, then you’ll know the famous line “Poetry, beauty, romance, love – these are what we stay alive for”. And any music fan knows these things can be found, abundantly, in our favourite songs.

I have been passionate about music for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a household where my dad had an extensive vinyl collection and we’d all sit down to watch old re-runs of Top of the Pops, music was all around me. I remember putting on colourful dresses and dancing to disco hits in our living room when I was a little girl. I also recall spending my sick days off school lying in front of the TV watching VH1 (the multi-hour chart countdowns of 80s songs were my favourite!).  When I created my first mixtape, it featured The Smiths, The Ramones, The Clash, Buzzcocks and The Jam, as well as the odd R&B hit and pop song.

After spending a lot of my school life feeling like an outsider (“Why do you listen to old people’s music?” was a frequent question I received at school), I felt a lot less strange once I made it to university. There,  I joined the student radio station, RAW 1251AM, and presented a bunch of weekly music shows as well as discovering exciting new music for our department radio playlists, interviewing local bands and reviewing gigs for station publicity.

Then, after deciding to take a study year abroad and spending the next year of my studies in Melbourne, Australia, I set up From Sophia with Love as my free hobby (Melbourne was an expensive place to be for a broke student like myself). I sincerely hope you enjoy this blog and all of the great music you may discover.

So, as the immortal words of Wet Wet Wet once proclaimed, “Love is all Around, so come on and let it show”!

From Sophia, with Love x
