Hello everyone, Sophia here!
I am from London and recently finished my BA Classical Civilisation degree at University of Warwick. I am 23 and this is my blog!
Per the wise words of John Keating in Dead Poets Society: “Poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for” and these can be found in abundance in the Arts. Music, film and TV are my passions, and they really make me tick.
My love for film, TV and above all, music, has gone on for as long as I can remember. Receiving the firm stamp of a music taste from my parents, I remember making tapes and CDs with selections of 70’s, 80s and 90s music (The Smiths, The Ramones, Buzzcocks and The Jam comes to mind from my first CD) between the ages of 8 and 13 (okay, I admit there was also some R&B and cheesy pop in there too!). I am also part of a family who would sit down every weekend and watch the re-runs of the retro 007 Bond films from the first to the last, only to do it again once they started showing the Sean Connery ones again; Roger Moore is a family favourite so when his films are on telly, these viewings become sacred.
Then, I found a way to annoy my close friends and family with my musical endeavours during my second year at Warwick – I joined the student radio station, RAW, and presented a weekly throwback music show called Turn Back Time (cue the diva that is Cher!), which covered anything from popular 90’s music, Disco, to slightly more obscure Punk and Electronic collections from the late 70’s and early 80’s. Podcasts of these shows can also be found on this site. 2 years have passed since I joined, and now have film soundtrack shows and numerous student chart shows to my name.
Then, after spending an exchange year in Melbourne, Australia, I returned to the UK and re-joined the student radio station I sorely missed. I proceeded to spend the year discovering breaking new music for radio playlists, and interviewing bands at small venues and reviewing thier gigs for publicity. This led me to the blog’s new direction: to focus solely on writing about new indie rock and pop – giving some promotion to alot of the wonderful music out there, just waiting to be discovered.
As the immortal words of Wet Wet Wet proclaim, “Love is all Around”, so come on and let it show! I sincerely hope you enjoy reading. 🙂
