girl in red weaves existentialism into “i’ll die anyway”
Norwegian artist girl in red (real name Marie Ulven) is back with “i’ll die anyway”, an ode to existential crises and the inevitability of the end.
“I think this is the most honest song I’ve written on how i perceive my life,” she clarifies. “I’ve always questioned my existence, meaning, time and the universe. All I know is that I don’t know, and the only thing that’s guaranteed is I’ll die anyway.” Therefore, as morbid as the song may seem, it is not only a personal, stripped-back reflection but also a concept that has some redeeming qualities. As the end is inevitable, girl in red’s new track tells us to appreciate the doubt. In the journey of the track, we shall begin to also embrace the uncertainty and the chaos.
To help with the theme of embracing and appreciating the unknown, the track’s acoustic sound is rather uplifting. The rushes of the guitars lovingly play with the track’s simultaneously bleak outlook and spaces for admiration. With “i’ll die anyway” being a very private and honest song, the music video beautifully pairs with it. Mixed with footage from Marie’s childhood and her present, the music video is also possesses a very personal and genuine feel. Check it out below!
