Sea Girls release indie anthem “Closer”
Since their debut EP Call Me Out dropped in 2017, London-based indie rockers Sea Girls have experienced an impressive rise. After being named the only band in BBC’s Sound of 2019, Sea Girls’ music and live performances have given the band a really exciting place in the indie music scene. I have been a fan of Sea Girls ever since they released “All I Want To Hear You Say”, and even though it still remains my favourite of theirs, I look forward to each new release. This is precisely because Sea Girls have shown their skill in releasing one big indie anthem after another, and the newly-released “Closer” is no exception.
Released as an exploration of the ups and downs of love, “Closer” is anthemic, catchy and easily enjoyable. Guitarist Rory Young has spoken about the composition of the track: “It was originally written as an electronic track about being far away. Replacing the synths with guitars back in London gave the track an absolute new lease of life.” Without a doubt, the band have delivered another catchy banger with the track’s bouncy guitar riffs and pop hooks. Henry Camamile’s passionate vocals shine, giving the track that extra punch of energy and emotion. In sum, “Closer” screams classic indie, and it screams Sea Girls.
Sea Girls have a busy summer ahead of them with bountiful festival dates around the UK, where they’ll be hitting up Truck Festival, Reading & Leeds Festival, Tramlines and Boardmasters (only to name a few!).
That’s not all! In October, the band are also heading out on their largest, headline UK tour to date.
