IDLES release roaring B-side “I Dream Guillotine”

Since IDLES released their sophomore LP Joy As An Act Of Resistance last August, the band have reached great heights. They’ve created a formidable name for themselves in the indie punk music scene. Last week, they even got themselves a 2019 Mercury Prize nomination. Back in May, the Bristol punk rockers dropped “Mercedes Marxist”. Now, we have its B-side “I Dream Guillotine” and a music video for the former. Both tracks were recorded during the studio sessions for Joy As An Act, and we’re absolutely loving them.
Through the French Revolution mirroring in “I Dream Guillotine”, we gain an insight into the disenfranchisement of working-class Britain. “My bastard visions of a/ Bastard city broken” roars frontman Joe Talbot. Musically, the track’s agitated drums and rushing guitar riffs give a blistering urgency to its already cutting narrative. It is clear that IDLES are unashamedly themselves, and they’re taking no prisoners.
IDLES have also announced that they have begun writing their third LP – exciting times! Both “Mercedes Marxist” and “I Dream Guillotine” are now available to buy as a 7″ single on the band’s official website here.
