Beabadoobee unveils dreamy bop ‘She Plays Bass’
Beabadoobee (real name Bea Kristi) has teased her third EP with the lovely track ‘She Plays Bass’.
The single doubles as both a wistful love song and an ode to her best-friend (and bass player) Eliana. “She’s my go to person every time I have any troubles in my life and, you know, I’m the same with her” revealed Kristi. “And I guess at times, it feels like we wish we could date, because if something ever goes wrong or we need anything we go straight to talk to each other. When you have a best friend like that, it’s like – we would be perfect for each other!”
The track certainly shines with its 90’s indie rock flourishes, along with its melody and dreamy vocals by beabadoobee. Also, its lo-fi hooks are mesmerising. “‘She Plays Bass’ is basically something that belongs in my playlist,” Kristi told NME. “The instrumentation and the melody remind me of all the ’90s bands I love mushed together, which I guess is why it’s so comfortable playing it live.”
She also revealed the new-found confidence she has weaved into the new record. “The new EP feels so much more like me and what I listen to all the time” she said. “And ‘She Plays Bass’ as the first single kind of represents that – when we play it live it feels like it comes so naturally, like we don’t even have to try.”
Her third EP Space Cadet will be out in October via Dirty Hit. Beabadoobee will also be heading out to support Clairo on her US tour this autumn.
