North Parade and their upcoming London gig
In the lead up to their very exciting London gig at The Grace on October 19th, here is a guide to Birmingham (and now London-based) indie band North Parade.
For a band that notes their influences as ranging from The Smiths, The Cure and Pulp to more contemporary alternative bands such as Sea Girls and Sad Boys Club, North Parade have a really well-rounded and joyous alt-pop/rock sound. Since forming in 2017, they have proved this with some cracking singles and stellar live shows.
Their debut single ‘Birmingham’
The band’s debut single ‘Birmingham’ was written late at night in a service station and explores an unfortunate love story. Radio X’s John Kennedy applauded it as “an instant indie classic”, and ‘Birmingham’ certainly shines with its sunny guitar riffs, heartfelt storytelling and luscious indie melodies. The track was produced by Gavin Monaghan (The Blinders, JAWS, The Sherlocks) and it wonderfully blends heartache with joyful music.
‘Kind Of’ – their second single
The sunshine and infectious swagger continued in their August release ‘Kind Of’, their second single. Written about selfishness, the band wrote the track on a cold night in a Cardiff flat. Its energy and carefree vibes were just what the summer of 2019 needed.
What’s next? Their debut EP and live gigs
North Parade are currently preparing for the release of their debut EP How to Be Good – out on the 15th December. Its first single will be out on the 18th October, a day before their headline gig at The Grace on the 19th. There, Gecko Club will be supporting North Parade in an evening of great indie. Tickets are £8 and can be purchased here. Apart from their Islington gig in October, North Parade will also be playing a headline show in Birmingham at The Victoria on 15th November.
So, if you’re close to any of those venues, then do check them out! I am very excited for their gig at The Grace, and if this is your cup of tea, then you should be too.
I will also be writing a review of the gig, so stay tuned!
